La'Toya Dirrell - A ReMIX at Mott

My name is La'Toya Dirrell, I’m a second-year AmeriCorps VISTA, and I enjoy empowering and seeing others shine. I currently serve with the Mott Community College’s ReMIX program. I help design and implement an age and culturally appropriate multimedia communications campaign to provide disconnected youth with up-to-date information of available resources and the ways to access them. Through my service, I've learned that there are too many disconnected youth in Genesee County who are unaware of existing services, who don't know where to go for help, and are confused and frustrated by program eligibility issues.

Making a difference is what my life is about. I believe if you dream big the results will be bigger. The goals we set for ourselves today will come in handy on our journey to success in the future. I will be setting new goals for my new service year that have never been set before. I will continue to challenge myself to become a better me. I find it important to also have short-term goals as well as long-term goals. Throughout my service years, I've learned that it's good to have a mix of short- and long-term goals so you are able to see your progression. Goals are very important in our daily life. They help keep me on my toes and are a very helpful tool I use throughout my service.
